An email I received today forced me to write this post.

People in general take advise from people only if it fits their needs at the time. What I mean by this is, say you want something really bad ( micro mini pig ) and all the websites out there are telling you that there is no guarantee that your pig will stay small. Then you find one site that claims they will stay the size of a teacup. You will believe that one site instead of taking the advice of all of the other sites. I am not saying that there aren’t any micro mini pigs out there still weighing in at under 20lbs after 3 years. All I am saying is that I have never seen one in person. Even if I did, how could I guarantee that it is full grown.

Well first off let me say:

  • If you want a really small pig, you are going to pay a lot of money for it.
  • If you think that your pig is going to stay the size of a teacup, think again.
  • Just because a breeder charges a ton of money for their pig, does not make them a good breeder.

Most people ask me where they can get a Royal Dandy micro mini pig without paying the ridiculous amount of money that they are asking for them. Unfortunately, the only way to get a Royal Dandy pig is from Royal Dandy themselves.

I can’t for the life of me figure out where these people get the prices that they charge for there pigs. When I was breeding, I calculated feed cost, supplies ( litter, harness and leash, etc…) vet charges, starter care package and just added a few bucks for taking care of them for the first 6-8 weeks. I’m sorry but 4-5 thousand dollars seems a bit high to me too.

Now is a great time to be thinking about how to keep your mini pig warm and dry through the winter months. I know that we are in Florida, and it really doesn’t get that cold down here but we still get some pretty bad weather.

Visit PigGear for a custom made cover up so that you don’t have to worry about the cold weather.

Since the demand was so high on this product, I decided to continue making it. Hoddies are great and they are even better with a piggy inside. Gordy  is showing us how much he enjoys it.

Congratulations! It is almost time for your newest family member to arrive.
Now is the time to pig proof your house. Taking the time to pig proof the home now will make it easier for you and your pet pig.
To start with, designate a small area for your pig. A bathroom or laundry room will work well. For the first 3 – 4 weeks, this will be where you and your piggy spend your time bonding. It will take most pigs 4 weeks to get accustomed to you, their new house, and the facilities.

The Mini Pig Farm has already began litter training and crate training for your pet pig. This should help in the transition, just be patient with your little porker.

Pigs are curious, fun loving animals that like to explore. They use their noses(snout) to lift, push, and dig. With this in mind, move any objects at ground level that your pig might get into. The clothes hamper for example, could make a great toy and end up in a new location daily. Or even overturned with your good clothes being used for a bed. With this in mind, also think of any chemicals that may be overturned when a low cabinet door
is snouted open.

For those of you who purchased a pig from Mini Pig Farm, your piggy will arrive with a crate so there is no need to buy one yet. The crate is your pigs safe haven and when he/she is scared or tired they will retreat to their crate. This will also be useful when you need to correct behavioral problems. Many of us have other animals in the house such as dogs and cats. Most pigs will get used to their presence but it is wise to get your pig acquainted with the 2 legged family members first. Be sure the pigs room is safe and comfortable. Keep the dogs out, as they have a chase instinct, while your pet pig has a flight instinct. This will only make the transition into your home take longer.
